In labor, a woman descends. Below thought, below language, below time. A Mother must descend into an altered state. This is not a metaphor. It is the primal and ancient intelligence all women carry. Bright lights pull her out of it. Unnecessary conversing pulls her out of it. Words spoken at the wrong moment pulls her out of it. And every time she is pulled out, she has to find her way back down.
Sometimes birth truly needs help — and when it does, thank God for it. But most of the time, what a woman needs is someone in the room who is not afraid of her own power. The real, raw and ancient power that she holds.
Who guards the door. Who trusts the descent.
Birth is initiation.

The Woman Who Holds This
I birthed my son at home, in the water, undisturbed.
Forty weeks. A birth pool in my bedroom. My husband, and two women I trusted. My son in caul until the moment his head was birthed, then the sack broke. No one directing me or telling me when to push. I traveled somewhere ancient. My body knew what to do.
I know what undisturbed birth feels like from the inside. Not from a book. From my own descent. This is the room I hold for you.
Years before he was born, my body called me into the dark. A glass jug fell on my foot the day I was supposed to fly to India… a tendon severed, the flight never taken. Surgery pulled the tendon back, and I am grateful for it. But the cast was improperly set. The skin on my foot went necrotic. Months later the wound opened… palm-sized, with tendons exposed! It was like the body’s exhibit only on my own foot..!! The surgeon told me plastic surgery was the only way.
Everything in me said NO.
I continued to study consciousness practices and energy medicine. I refused to speak the dark visions I was receiving out loud. I held the vision of my foot whole against every voice, internal and external, that said it couldn’t be. There was no other option. I WAS healing this!
Ten months total off my foot. The length of a pregnancy. My body eventually closed what they said only a skin graft could.
The wound, a portal. My greatest initiation before I birthed.
It did not leave me the same. It left me needing to understand what I had touched.
I went looking for the wise ones, women who already knew. I found my way to master midwife Whapio Diane Bartlett and The Matrona, and I am training under her now, in the tradition of holistic, undisturbed birth. The holistic stages of labor. Quantum caregiving. Homeopathy. Presence over management. Everything the wound taught me in the dark, this lineage has a name for.
My hands were trained long before that. Twenty years as a fine art photographer taught them to be quiet, to wait, to know when not to move. Reiki and energy medicine taught them to listen… to feel what a body is saying before it is spoken. Different teachers. The same instruction: be still, pay attention, do not interfere.
This is what I bring into your birth room. Not a method. A woman who has descended and returned, trained in a lineage that has walked women through this door for generations.

What I hold
An Undisturbed Room. Amber light, or no light at all. The fewest voices, and the softest ones. An environment that allows you to stay in the deep place your body is carrying you. I hold this with everyone present, gently and without exception.
A Nourished Mother. A Mother who is held, well fed, warm, rested. A Mother who has had the time and space to spiral through all her “what ifs” long before the first contraction — labors from a different place than one who is depleted. She opens the way she is meant to: when she feels safe to. The tending begins in pregnancy, not in labor.
Mother & Baby At The Center. Every decision in the room bends toward one question: what do the Mother and baby need right now? Not the clock. Not the schedule. Not the comfort of anyone else present. Them. Everything else waits.
The Prepared Circle. The Father. Her Mother, her sister, her closest friend… whoever her heart wants at her birth. I teach them what undisturbed means and what their role is, so their love lands as support instead of interruption. A prepared circle is the difference between a birth that is held and one that is crowded.
The Postpartum Bridge. Birth does not end when the baby arrives. The woman who entered that room does not walk out of it— A Mother does, brand new, and wide open. The first 40 days are part of the initiation. I stay through the crossing: the closing of the arc, not just the opening.
And through all of it, if she wishes… the photographs. Made silently, without flash, without direction. I photograph the way I hold the room: invisibly. She will not remember I had a camera. She will have proof— of the descent, the crossing, the return. Not so she can remember what it looked like. So she can never forget what she did.

Every birth I attend begins with a conversation. You, your partner, and me. An open space to walk through your birth vision, your questions, and to feel whether this is right for both of us. This is a working session, not a sales call. You will leave clearer about your birth, whichever way we go.
The session is $55, credited in full toward your container if we begin together.
